SOLD OUT!!! New England Small Farm Institute has partnered with Massachusetts Forestry Alliance [MFA] to host a chainsaw safety workshop. Held on Wednesday, June 19 from 8 am to 3 pm at NESFI in Belchertown, this course will cover the basics of chainsaw use and maintenance.

It is geared to homeowners, forest landowners, trail maintainers, firewood cutters and anyone who wants to know how to use, sharpen and maintain a chainsaw, which has been described as “the most dangerous tool you don’t need a license to operate.” It is intended both for new users and those with limited experience who would like to learn more.

The instructor is an experienced logger with extensive experience in teaching chain saw courses to a variety of audiences. Topics covered will include: anatomy of a chainsaw, how it works, basic maintenance tasks, sharpening, how to work safely, and practice in bucking, limbing and felling (as time allows).

The workshop includes coffee and lunch, and costs $75. We expect this to sell out very quickly, so if you’re interested, sign up as soon as possible at
