David Stanley, Integrated Pest Management consultant, will lead an Invasive Plant Work Party: Saturday 1 June, 9am to noon. This 2nd session of NESFI’s 3-part Invasive Plant series will focus on management and control of multiflora rose. Similar to the first workshop, we will stroll the NESFI site, finding invasive plant candidates for mechanical control, some of which were identified during the April walkabout.

The invasive multiflora rose will be the headliner because it blooms in early June. Autumn olive and honeysuckle will also be encountered; they will be at the end of their bloom or just past it. Participants will discuss and implement mechanical control practices appropriate for many of the specimens encountered.

Clippers of all types, pruning saws and pole saws will come in handy. Other topics to be discussed include carbohydrate starvation, additional control options and identification.

All are welcome, but space is limited so best to register early. Reply to info@smallfarm.org to register or call 413.323.4531 and leave a message. There is a $20 registration fee.
